Mark’s 100km Ultramarathon

Story

On 6th June 2026, I’ll be running a 100km ultramarathon through the Lake District to raise money for AFASIC, a charity that supports children and families affected by speech, language and communication difficulties.

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a lifelong condition that affects how children understand and use language. It’s something not many people have heard of, yet it impacts around one in 14 children. It can make everyday things like conversations and school life much harder than they should be.

AFASIC provides incredible support for children with DLD and their families — offering advice, guidance and a community that really understands what it’s like. They help give children a voice, and that’s something truly special.

Running 100km in the Lake District will be an enormous challenge, but I’m doing it to raise awareness of DLD and to show support for every child who finds communication that bit harder.

 🏅 Challenge Complete!

On Saturday, I completed the 100km ultramarathon through the Lake District, finishing in 5th place overall.

It was an incredibly tough but rewarding day, and I’m delighted with how it went. Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared the page, or offered words of encouragement throughout the training and on the day itself.

Taking on this challenge was all about raising awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and supporting the fantastic work of Afasic. If you’d still like to donate, the fundraising page remains open and every contribution, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
